n a surprising early revelation, images of the forth coming 2024 Kia EV5 electric SUV, constructed in China, have emerged from undisclosed regulatory sources. While an official unveiling is scheduled for later this month, these leaked images provide a glimpse into what this new electric SUV has to offer.
The highly anticipated 2024 Kia EV5, initially showcased asa concept in March, is primed to make its grand entrance at the Chengdu motor show on August 25. According to information from the Korean Car Blog, the production model's design remains faithful to the earlier concept, as confirmed by the regulatory images released by China's Ministry of Industry andInformation Technology.
Initial details from these regulatory filings indicate that the EV5 stands at 4615mm in length, 1875mm in width, and 1715mm in height. These dimensions position the EV5 in a similar size range to its internal-combustion counterpart, the Sportage, and its Tesla Model Y competitor.
Contrastingly, the EV5 proves to be marginally shorter yet taller than its sibling, the EV6, which is categorised as a larger SUV in Australia. According to insights from the Korean Car Blog, pricing for the EV5 is expected to commence at 50 million won (equivalent to approximately AU$57,600) for the standard range variant. The long-range version, boasting an estimated driving range of 600km, is projected to be priced at 57 million won (about AU$65,700).
While models designated for the Chinese market will incorporate lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology, overseas editions are anticipated to integrate nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries.
Drawing parallels with the full-size EV9 slated for an Australian debut later this year, the Kia EV5 displays design cues that echo its larger counterpart.
Although Kia has confirmed the EV5's launch in China later this year, the brand's ambitions for the global market are more expansive. Plans for the EV5's availability in other international markets will be revealed in due course, adding an air of anticipation to the model's impending global launch next year, possibly encompassing the Australian market as well.
Last year, Roland Rivero, the head of product planning for Kia Australia, expressed the company's eagerness to embrace electric vehicles (EVs) in various segments. Kia's aspiration to introduce at least two distinct EV models, including the imminent EV9, underlines its commitment to contributing to the evolving landscape of sustainable mobility options.
