enowned Swedish car manufacturer Volvo, now under Chinese ownership, is set to venture into the people mover market, introducing their first-ever model designed for the Chinese market with electric power. Recently, spy shots emerged of this upcoming Volvo people mover, which is not expected to be available in Australia, providing a sneak peek before its anticipated launch later this year.
The images reveal that Volvo's people mover will be a modified version of the electric people mover Zeekr 009, another brand under the Geely umbrella. While certain elements, such as the headlights featuring Volvo's iconic 'Thor's Hammer' design, appear unique, the body structure, windows, and doors seem to be sourced from the Zeekr.
Inside, it is likely that the seats will be borrowed from the Zeekr 009, and any potential changes to the dashboard remain uncertain. TheVolvo people mover will be built on Geely's SEA electric-car platform, shared with Volvo's new EX30 city SUV. This platform will feature two electric motors, batteries up to 140kWh, power outputs of up to 400kW, and a claimed driving range of up to 800km based on Chinese lab testing.
While the official unveiling is expected in the coming months, with deliveries planned in China by year-end, there is no confirmation regarding its availability in Australian showrooms. Given the niche market for luxury people movers locally, it is unlikely that this particular vehicle will be offered in Australia
